Get started with Ingredients In Fillet, ingredients are the building blocks of everything you do. Ingredients are products used in Recipes and Menu Items.
Overview
Ingredients are products used in Recipes and Menu Items.
Enter details about an Ingredient:
- name
- Prices (Purveyors)
- Photos
- Density
- Nutrition
- Barcode
- Notes
- Edible Portion
- Abstract units
- Groups
You don’t need to enter all details for an Ingredient.
However, to use certain features, you must enter some required information.
Example
- You want to calculate cost for a Recipe.
- An Ingredient used in that Recipe does not have any Prices.
- You must enter at least one Price for that Ingredient.
- Otherwise, Fillet cannot calculate cost for that Recipe using that Ingredient.

| Prices | Create Prices for different suppliers (Purveyors) of this Ingredient. |
| Density | Enter Density and Fillet can do conversions between mass units and volume units wherever this Ingredient is used. |
| Nutrition | Enter Nutrition and Fillet can calculate Nutrition for any Recipes and Menu Items using this Ingredient. |
| Barcode | Enter a Barcode and you can search for this Ingredient using Fillet’s Scan feature. |
| Notes | Enter Notes to capture a quick thought, ideas, and more. |
| Edible Portion | Enter Edible Portion to specify what percentage of this Ingredient is usable, and Fillet will use this information in calculations. |
| Abstract units | Create Abstract Units to customize measurement units for this Ingredient, for example, bottle of oil, box of eggs. |
| Groups | Create Groups or add this Ingredient to an existing Group, and organize your Ingredients. |
| Photos | Add unlimited Photos to this Ingredient. |
Create a new Ingredient
iOS and iPadOS
- In the All Ingredients list, tap to create a new Ingredient.
- Enter a name for your new Ingredient.
Android
- In the Ingredients list, tap the New Ingredient button.
- Enter a name for your new Ingredient.
Web
- In the Ingredients tab, click the Create Ingredient button.
- Enter a name for your new Ingredient.
- Enter details about your new Ingredient, or set it up later.
See and modify an Ingredient
iOS and iPadOS
- In the All Ingredients list, tap to select an Ingredient.
- Modify the Ingredient’s details.
- Tap Delete ingredient to delete.
Android
- In the Ingredients list, tap to select an Ingredient.
- Modify the Ingredient’s details.
- Tap , then Delete to delete.
Web
- In the Ingredients tab, click to select an Ingredient.
- Modify the Ingredient’s details.
- Click the Delete Ingredient button to delete.
Fillet features using Ingredients
